Bottle service works like this: Patrons pay a premium for a choice table and their own bottle of alcohol, a centerpiece in a mixology bouquet that also includes juices, tonics, sodas and energy drinks. Whip up your own cocktail, then leave your table to dance and mingle without worrying about your coat or drinks. Return at your leisure.
"When you do pop for it, it really gives you a sense of ownership of the room, being able to sit there and self-serve your own drinks while the suckers stand in line and try to catch the cocktail waitress," said Nate Warren, publicist for Five Points Plan Recordings, a local hip-hop label. "It's a status thing. That's really the experience you're buying. It allows you to set up your own zone within the establishment. You can invite someone over to your table and say, 'Here,' and pour them one.
"It's convivial. With one purchase you elevate yourself ... you immediately set yourself one notch above standard patrons. 'Here is my space within the space."'
Most Nightclubs share the philosophy that bottle service isn't only for the rich and famous. Anyone trying to sell you a table will tell you that four to six people can enjoy bottle service for around $200, tax and tip included, making it a $35-$50 bar tab per person. Most Colorado clubs waive cover charges for those partaking in bottle service, and it can be a pretty affordable sell compared with racking up a by-the-glass bill at the bar.
Bottle service: How it works
Bottle service has been offered in some Colorado clubs for years. But if you're unfamiliar with the VIP treatment, here's a primer on how it goes.
1. Call for a table reservation, usually a week in advance.
2. Most clubs offering bottle service waive cover charges for bottle-service patrons and offer shorter VIP lines, from where customers are escorted to their private table.
3. A server brings ice and takes orders. The menus typically offer bottles ranging from $150-$600, and mixers - save for Red Bull and other energy drinks - are included in the price. Many clubs require at least one bottle per five or six people.
4. Servers pour the first round and allow customers to mix their own drinks after that.
5. Customers enjoy their own space, and can leave and dance as the server keeps an eye on things. Some clubs offer secondary bottles at a discount.
6. Some clubs add gratuity no matter the size of the party. Others will add 20 percent for parties of six and more.
If patrons become regulars, they get to know their servers and VIP managers better - and become eligible for further discounts and VIP treatments.
